CFD Physical Agility Test
The CFD test is an untimed test, which replicates common fireground tasks. The purpose of the test is to see whether the applicant can complete these tasks without assistance.
The uniform for the test will be workout clothes or station clothes, fire helmet, gloves and safety shoes, or regular shoes with safety covers on. Fire gloves or extrication gloves may be used.
The test consists of 6 stations with at least 75 feet between stations. When told to start the applicant will proceed to each station in order and complete the assigned tasks. Once the applicant completes the task he or she will walk to the next station without stopping. Times will be kept, but not used for any testing or grading purposes.
Station 1-Ladder climb. Starting at the turntable of T-7, climb the ladder at a 55-degree angle. The ladder will not be extended. The applicant will be secured with a belay system using a class-3 harness.
Once the applicant has climbed the ladder, he or she will move into the bucket and raise a section of 1.5 hose using a hand-over-hand method. The applicant will place the hose onto the floor of the bucket, and then lift the hose over the side and lower the hose using a hand-over-hand method. Once done the applicant will descend the ladder. At the foot of the turntable, the applicant will be disconnected from the belay, but will keep the harness on.
The applicant will then walk across the apron and down the sidewalk to the hydrant at the front of the station.
Station 2- Hydrant. The applicant will open the hydrant fully and close the hydrant. The applicant will then walk back down the sidewalk to the water meter box located at the right side of the apron.
Station 3-Forcible entry simulator. The applicant will use the flat side of a flat-headed axe and chop 10 times onto the tire. Once done, the applicant will walk through the bay to the back of Medic 2’s bay.
Station 4- Dummy drag. The applicant will drag or carry the dummy 50 feet out onto the apron, around the marker and back. The dummy must stop all the way inside of the bay. The applicant will then walk across the apron to the far right side of the back apron to where the extrication tools are staged.
Station 5- Tool carry. Pick up the cutter and spreader and carry 50 feet around the marker and back. Place the tools behind the starting line. Once done the applicant will then walk to the bay where M-3 will be waiting inside.
Station 6-Stretcher load- The applicant will pick up 3 sections of 1.5 hose and place on the stretcher while it is outside of the medic unit. The applicant will then load the stretcher. A helper will be provided only to assist with raising the carriage of the stretcher. The test will be complete once the stretcher is locked into the unit.
